Anambra Residents Demand Justice Amidst Child Abuse Allegations Against Prominent Lawyer And Pastor
In the 33 area of Onitsha, a widespread outcry has erupted following reports of severe abuse inflicted upon a housegirl by her guardian, identified as Adachukwu Okafor, purportedly a lawyer and pastor……..CONTINUE READING
Local residents, who took to the streets alongside the victim, vehemently denounced the actions of the lawyer-pastor, urging law enforcement to hold her accountable for the alleged abuse.
The distressed mother of the maltreated girl revealed that she entrusted her sister’s daughter to the lawyer’s care, expressing regret over her decision. The girl reportedly suffered injuries, including burns from a hot iron, after inadvertently touching the private part of the lawyer’s young son while bathing him.
As community members condemned the lawyer’s actions, a pastor affiliated with a Pentecostal church drove away from her residence and has not been seen since.
In response to the disturbing incident, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State governor, intervened by instructing the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, to take custody of the child and initiate immediate medical treatment for her injuries. Mrs. Soludo also called for thorough examinations to determine if the girl suffered internal injuries from the burns.
Expressing profound sadness over the girl’s current state, Mrs. Soludo denounced the guardian’s actions as barbaric and pledged to ensure justice is served. She implored anyone with information on the whereabouts of the absconding guardian to come forward and provide assistance.
Emphasizing Anambra State’s commitment to preventing child abuse, Mrs. Soludo underscored the government’s resolve to address any violations of human dignity. While urging parents to carefully consider their child’s age and the temperament of potential guardians before entrusting them as maids, she emphasized that the government would take decisive action against those who show a lack of respect for human dignity.
