Anger Unleashed In Abuja As Residents Rally Against FCT Minister Wike’s Destructive Demolitions

a task force, “Operation Sweep,” to demolish Ruga and other communities in the capital, aiming to clear the city of what he considered nuisances and criminal activities.

The demonstration was led by prominent lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, alongside Vincent Martins Otse (aka VeryDarkMark), who argued that the demolitions were carried out with malicious intent.

Adeyanju expressed concerns about the destruction of properties, with many houses set ablaze, causing significant losses. He called on President Bola Tinubu to address the plight of the displaced residents, many of whom had already fled their homes in Borno and other northern states due to insecurity.

“There’s no justification for these demolitions,” Adeyanju said. “We urge the president to take action on behalf of these poor people who have already suffered enough.”

He continued, “Many residents here were displaced from Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe due to violence. These demolitions are excessive. The President must act to prevent further suffering.”

He also pointed out that the demolitions were particularly unjust because the affected community is far from the main road, and the land was being reassigned to wealthier individuals.

Otse added, “This is unprecedented. The repercussions for Abuja will be significant. These people are being evicted without compensation, and it’s heartbreaking to see how the elite dismiss the struggles of the poor.”

The protestors are urging the government to halt the demolitions and provide fair treatment to those affected.
