Anthony Joshua’s Uncle Describes Family’s Sh*ck After Fatal Accident And Phone Theft
According to Ireporter Online, Anthony Joshua’s family is grappling with shock and grief following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two of the boxing champion’s close friends. Adedamola Joshua, the athlete’s uncle, described the trauma the family experienced upon learning of the incident, noting that the news reached them not via social media but through a phone call hours later.
Speaking on the tragedy, he recounted how he received the call from a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police around 1 p.m., leaving the family stunned. “How can Anthony Joshua be involved in an accident? It sounded impossible, but it actually happened; it is unfortunate,” he said.
Adedamola Joshua explained that the boxer had arrived in Nigeria just six hours before the crash and was en route to Sagamu to spend time with family. He emphasized that Joshua had deliberately chosen family visits over high-profile engagements with prominent officials. The uncle described the incident as “painful,” highlighting that Joshua’s annual trips home were routine and no longer tied to major family gatherings following the death of a senior relative.
Criticizing Nigeria’s emergency response, Adedamola Joshua said the lack of immediate medical attention was distressing, pointing out that Joshua had to cross the median after the crash instead of being transported on a stretcher. He called for ambulances to be stationed along accident-prone highways and condemned bystanders who allegedly filmed the scene or stole from victims, including Joshua’s phone.
Despite these criticisms, he praised government officials for their response, commending Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and President Bola Tinubu for their support and intervention.
On the circumstances of the crash, he questioned reports of reckless driving and suggested that professional drivers and security details be provided for national figures like Joshua. Reflecting on the emotional impact, he said the family’s festive celebrations were overshadowed by grief, though they were relieved by Joshua’s recovery. Adedamola Joshua concluded by extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
