APC Sweeps Gombe LG Election

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, Saidu Shehu, disclosed that the APC clinched victory in all 11 local government areas, including Kaltungo and Shongom, where it ran unopposed.

Outlining the electoral participation, Shehu noted that only five out of the 19 registered political parties fielded candidates, namely the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party.

He remarked, “The APC cleared the 11 local government areas, including Kaltungo and Shongom, where the party won unopposed. Other parties didn’t have candidates for the councillorship seats, and candidates of the APC were returned elected.”

Among the triumphant candidates were Sani Haruna for Gombe LGA, Dr. Ahmed Doho for Kwami LGA, Ibrahim Jatau for Balanga LGA, Egla Idris for Billiri LGA, Mohammed Danladi for Akko LGA, and Shuaibu Adamu for Funakaye LGA.

Additionally, Iliya Suleiman emerged victorious in Kaltungo LGA, Abubakar Hassan in Yalmatu Deba LGA, Binta Bello in Shongom LGA, Adamu Mohammed in Dukku LGA, and Babangida Adamu in Nafada LGA.

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who cast his vote at the Yahaya Umar polling unit 010, called on defeated candidates to rally behind the winners and foster unity.

Yahaya emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, stating, “The people should remain calm and be of good conduct and above all go in solidarity so that whoever emerges will be supported to deliver on the needs of the people.”

Expressing confidence in the electoral process, he added, “I’m convinced beyond doubt that we are going to head to the coast, there is no fear; you can see people are happy and the election is being conducted across the state. The people are happy and the conduct is good.”
