Benue Declares 1-Week Easter Holiday – Schools & Offices To Close
The Benue State Government has announced a one-week Easter holiday for public and civil servants across the state. The directive, issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary (General Services), Godwin Tighil, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber, specifies that the holiday will commence from Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with workers expected to resume duties on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
According to the statement titled “Declaration of Public Holiday To Mark Easter Celebration,” the directive was approved by the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. The statement noted that workers in essential services are required to remain at their duty posts to attend to urgent public matters.
“Those on essential services are directed to remain at their duty posts to attend to issues of human and urgent public interests,” the statement said.
Governor Alia also extended Easter greetings to residents, urging them to pray for peace in Benue State and across the nation. “His Excellency wishes Benue people happy holidays and urged citizens to continue to pray for the peace of the state and the nation in the spirit of Easter celebration,” the statement added.
This announcement marks the first time Governor Alia has declared a one-week Easter holiday for state workers, although he had previously approved a two-week holiday for Christmas celebrations.
