Blood On Campus: Registrar Of UNIMED Slain In Ondo, Triggers Security Outrage

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, sending shockwaves across the academic and local communities.

According to iReporter Online, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, in the Fanibi area of Akure, the Ondo State capital. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olusola Ayanlade, revealed that two unidentified assailants emerged from the nearby bush and attacked the Registrar and another victim.

“They reportedly forced an unknown substance into the other victim’s mouth,” Ayanlade said. Although the content of the substance remains undetermined, authorities say a post-mortem examination will confirm whether it was poisonous. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for in-depth probing.

According to iReporter Online, the police have urged members of the public with useful information to assist in tracking down the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi, in an official statement, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the Registrar’s death as shocking and painful. “The Registrar was present at his duty post as recently as Monday, July 14. His sudden demise has left the entire university in mourning,” he stated.

Mr. Adeniran was appointed as UNIMED’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, and had served with diligence and integrity until his untimely death. His remains have been deposited at a hospital morgue, pending further investigation results.
