Initial reports indicated that the confrontation between the groups resulted in the tragic loss of at least 45 lives, sending shockwaves through the region.
The conflict erupted when a prominent militia figure from Benue allegedly abducted Alhaji Gana, a leader of a Taraba-based militia, along with several family members.
Sources suggest that the victims, hailing from the neighboring Chinkai community in Taraba State, had gained notoriety for their involvement in banditry and kidnapping.
It is alleged that the Benue militia demanded a staggering ransom of N100 million for the release of the captives, although a fraction of this amount, N5 million, was reportedly paid.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, acknowledged the recovery of eight bodies and assured that investigations are underway to uncover the underlying causes of the clash.
As tensions simmer and communities reel from the aftermath of violence, authorities are working tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the troubled region.
