Boko Haram Commander Behind Ethnic Clash, Killing Of 82 Fighters Surrenders
The leader of Boko Haram responsible for provoking an internal conflict among insurgents that resulted in the death of 82 fighters has turned himself in to the military.
Sources from the security sector revealed on Thursday that the commander, Amir Bukkwaram, surrendered to the authorities along with his family, fellow fighters, and a herd of sheep, and he handed over a collection of weapons, which included three AK47 rifles and seven magazines.
The informant indicated that this commander held a prominent position among the Boko Haram ranks, possessing extensive knowledge about the Lake Chad region’s geographical and strategic aspects.
“The voluntary surrender of Amir, also known as the commander of Bukkwaram, marks a significant accomplishment for us. He held a pivotal role as an intelligent Boko Haram fighter, responsible for gathering information about the local populace around Lake Chad,” the source explained.
The source further disclosed that the commander hailed from Shuwaram village in Kukawa Local Government Area. Amir and his group willingly surrendered, and they were accompanied by their family members, fellow fighters, weaponry, and livestock.
Amir and his associates were transported to Sector 3 of Operation Hadin kai (Multinational Joint Task Force) in Monguno.
According to reports by Daily Trust, the commander had executed seven of his fighters from the Buduma tribe after their unsuccessful attempt to surrender to the military. This act set off an inter-ethnic clash involving Kanuri, Hausa Buduma, and Fulani fighters on Bukkwaram Island, resulting in the death of at least 82 insurgents.
