Her resignation follows closely on the heels of her son, Chinedum Orji, the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who also recently announced his departure from the PDP.
Mrs. Orji, whose husband, Senator Theodore Orji, served as the governor of Abia State from 2007 to 2015, cited personal reasons for her decision to leave the party but did not indicate her next political move.
A copy of her resignation letter reads: “I write to formally resign as a member of the PDP with effect from this day, May 21, 2024, for personal reasons. Thank you for your support during my tenure as the First Lady of Abia and until date a strong supporter of the party. I wish you all the best.”
The letter was also copied to the Abia State Chairman of the PDP and the Acting National Chairman of the party.
It remains unclear whether her husband, Senator Theodore Orji, who served as governor and later as a senator under the PDP, will follow suit and resign from the party.
When contacted, Senator Orji’s aide and former Chief Liaison Officer, Hon Ifeanyi Umere, confirmed the resignation of the former First Lady from the PDP.
Ireporteronline recalls that the PDP in the South East has been experiencing a wave of resignations recently, notably since the former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, left the party.
