Former Abia Governor Ikpeazu Condemns Killing Of Soldiers As Barbaric (Details)
Immediate past Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed deep sadness over the recent killing of soldiers at Obikabia Junction by unknown assailants, describing the act as barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement on Saturday, Ikpeazu emphasized that the killing of soldiers on a lawful assignment to protect citizens does not reflect the values of the community. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Chief of Army Staff, the hierarchy of the Nigerian Army, and the families of the bereaved soldiers.
Ikpeazu urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators. He also called on the military authorities to exercise restraint and professionalism during their investigations, ensuring that innocent citizens are not unjustly affected.
Praying for peace, Ikpeazu asked Almighty God to restore harmony in the region and protect the people.
The incident occurred on Thursday during a sit-at-home declared by IPOB to commemorate those killed during the Biafra civil war. Unknown gunmen attacked and killed five soldiers at the Obikabia Junction checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area.
