Reports suggest that a helicopter carrying Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi, experienced a crash, resulting in a hard landing on Sunday….CONTINUE RAEDING

Details are scarce, with Iranian state television offering no further information. It remains uncertain if the President was aboard during the incident.

The crash occurred near Jolfa, a city on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, in the East Azerbaijan province, approximately 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of Tehran. Despite adverse weather conditions, rescue operations are underway, with heavy rain and strong winds reported in the area.

Earlier on Sunday, Raisi had visited Azerbaijan to attend the inauguration of a dam alongside President Ilham Aliyev. This dam signifies the third collaborative project between the two countries on the Aras River.

Iran’s helicopter fleet faces challenges due to international sanctions limiting spare part acquisition, particularly for its military aircraft, which largely date back to before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Raisi, aged 63, is recognized for his conservative views and previously held the position of Iran’s judiciary chief. As a close ally of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, there is speculation among analysts about his potential succession to leadership in Iran upon Khamenei’s retirement or passing.
