Our correspondent gathered that the accident, which was blamed on the brake failure of a 14-seater bus, occurred while the Toyota Hiace bus was descending from the Gembu hills.

Governor Agbu Kefas, while condoling with the families of the victims and the Christian family, described the accident as a black Sunday in the state.

In a statement released in Jalingo and signed by Emmanuel Bello, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Kefas said the news of the accident was heartbreaking and devastating.

The statement quoted the Governor as saying, “The circumstances of their death are regrettably tragic as they were returning from the women’s wing CAN Conference which ended yesterday in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“While praying for the repose of their souls, I want to pledge my administration’s continuous commitment to safer roads, especially within areas that pose great threats to life.

“I’ve already directed Local Government Chairmen to maintain existing roads with proper traffic controls, signages, and basic repairs.”

The Governor noted that “with this said development, we’ll work to minimise the sad occurrences of road mishaps occasioned by bad roads in the state,” he said.

Kefas, in the statement, also condoled with the CAN leadership, WOWICAN, and the entire Christian community in the state and the country at large.
