On Tuesday, Niger’s junta requested the West Africa regional court to lift sanctions imposed by neighboring countries and ECOWAS following the July coup that ousted the democratically elected president.

Lawyers for the junta argued in Abuja, Nigeria, that the sanctions have severely impacted all sectors of Nigerien society, causing significant economic hardship.
