BREAKING: Peter Obi Dragged To Court Over Serious Issue, Faces Disqualification (DETAILS)

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, is facing a new disqualification suit at a Federal High Court in Abuja over his alleged dual citizenship of two countries.

Another political party, the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has brought Obi before the Court, alleging, among other things, that the presidential candidate is no longer fit, proper, and qualified for Nigeria’s highest office due to his dual citizenship.

The plaintiff in the new suit against Obi is asking the court to disqualify him from the presidential race for violating the 1999 Constitution.

The Labour Party candidate was accused in the FHC/ABJ/CS/1842/2022 suit of acquiring citizenship of Dallas, Texas, United States of America in violation of sections 1 and 137 of Nigeria’s Constitution.

The party, through its counsel, Mohammed Danjuma, sought a perpetual injunction barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing, dealing with, or granting Peter Obi any right or privilege to run for president.

Peter Obi was said to have voluntarily acquired Dallas citizenship and the certificate of citizenship presented to him by Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson in a 14-paragraph affidavit in support of the suit.

To establish its case against the defendant, the party produced a photograph and video recording of the presentation of the citizenship certificate.

On Monday, Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo chastised the plaintiff for failing to serve the originating summons on the defendants.

Following that, Justice Ekwo set February 10 for the case to be heard and threatened to dismiss it if the plaintiff failed to serve the court process on Peter Obi before the adjustment date.

INEC, Peter Obi, and the Labour Party are named as defendants in the suit, from first to third.
