Breaking: Tinubu Appoints Supreme Court Judge, Awaits Senate Approval
According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the confirmation of Justice Oyewole Kayode as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Senate and read during plenary on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. In the letter, President Tinubu cited Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) as the legal basis for the nomination.
The President expressed confidence in Justice Kayode’s suitability for the apex court and urged the Senate to give the nomination prompt consideration and approval. He also conveyed assurances of his highest regards to the lawmakers.
Following the presentation of the letter, Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, directing the committee to carry out the necessary legislative scrutiny and report back to the chamber as soon as possible.
