Yamal, a product of Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy like Messi, has attracted widespread attention for his confidence, flair and rapid rise in the first team. The 18-year-old further enhanced his reputation on Sunday after scoring an acrobatic goal in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo, a result that sent the Catalan giants to the summit of the La Liga table.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League encounter against Copenhagen, Olmo urged observers to allow Yamal develop at his own pace. He stressed that every player must be judged on individual merit rather than being measured against past legends, noting that the winger has already shown exceptional quality at such a young age.

Olmo highlighted Yamal’s calm attitude and maturity, adding that the squad’s priority is to support his growth and shield him from undue expectations. He maintained that the team’s success remains a collective effort, insisting that strong individual performances ultimately benefit the entire side.

Yamal, who made his Barcelona debut at just 15, has already broken several records, including becoming the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history. He was also part of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad and played a significant role in Barcelona’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Barcelona will host Copenhagen on Wednesday, knowing that a win, combined with favourable results elsewhere, could secure a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase and automatic qualification for the round of 16. Head coach Hansi Flick confirmed that Pedri Gonzalez will miss the tie through injury, while Frenkie de Jong is suspended, although Ferran Torres is close to returning after recovering from injury.
