Veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has reportedly died at the age of 56 after suddenly falling ill at his office.

According to Ireporter Online, Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after experiencing a sudden health emergency while carrying out his regular professional activities.

The respected journalist, who previously served as Politics Editor at PUNCH newspapers, was reportedly in good health earlier in the day. He is said to have started his morning by visiting a gym with his wife before heading to his office.

Oladipo was also reportedly active on social media during the day, with his last known post said to have been made at around 2:50pm.

He later became unwell while at his office and reportedly attempted to drive himself to a hospital for medical attention. However, he allegedly suffered a suspected heart attack during the emergency and was subsequently pronounced dead.

His sudden death has reportedly sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s media community, where he was widely respected for his decades of experience in journalism, newsroom management and digital publishing.

Oladipo built a reputation as a meticulous journalist with extensive experience covering politics, business, the economy and other major national issues.

He later founded The Eagle Online and became part of a generation of Nigerian journalists who embraced digital publishing as the media industry evolved from traditional newspapers to online platforms.

Beyond his role as a publisher, Oladipo remained actively involved in professional journalism and was known for his engagement with colleagues and issues concerning the growth and development of the media industry.

He is survived by his wife, children and other family members.
