China Calls On U.S. To Free Venezuela’s President Maduro Immediately

China has sharply criticised the United States over its reported military action in Venezuela, calling for the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, whom it described as having been forcibly detained by American forces. According to Ireporter Online, Beijing warned that the development represents a serious violation of international law and established diplomatic conventions.

In a statement issued on Sunday, China’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the U.S. intervention, describing it as a breach of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles governing relations between sovereign states. The ministry condemned what it termed Washington’s unilateral and hegemonic use of military power.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry stressed that the reported operation amounted to a clear violation of international law and urged the United States to ensure the safety and immediate release of the Venezuelan leaders. China also cautioned against any attempt to forcibly remove or alter a legitimate government, warning that such actions could have far-reaching global consequences.

This is the second public condemnation from Beijing within 48 hours over the escalating Venezuela crisis. A day earlier, China had criticised the United States for what it described as the open use of force, reiterating its long-standing position on respect for state sovereignty and multilateral engagement.

Tensions escalated further after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed a large-scale military operation that reportedly resulted in the capture and removal of President Maduro and his wife. In response, Venezuelan authorities declared a state of emergency, accusing the United States of carrying out coordinated military strikes across several regions of the country.

The U.S. action followed persistent allegations by Washington linking Maduro to narcotics trafficking, accusations the Venezuelan leader has repeatedly denied while maintaining that he remains open to dialogue.

China’s position mirrors broader international calls for restraint and diplomacy, aligning with similar appeals from countries such as Türkiye. Beijing reiterated that international disputes should be resolved through peaceful negotiations rather than military intervention, warning that disregard for international law could fuel wider global instability.
