CNPP Calls For Resignation Of Labour Party Chairman

The statement, issued by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, James Ezema, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for resisting apparent attempts to manipulate its officials into endorsing the results of the recent controversial national convention of the party. CNPP highlighted the lack of internal democracy in many Nigerian political parties and praised INEC for upholding democratic principles by refusing to validate the outcomes of the factional national convention.
CNPP urged Abure to resign immediately, describing it as a critical step for him to become the hero of the moment. The statement emphasized the importance of inclusive representation, the rule of law, and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of individuals within political parties in a liberal democracy like Nigeria.
Referring to a judgment of the Federal High Court, CNPP underscored that the Labour Party was founded, promoted, and registered by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on behalf of Nigerian Workers. The faction led by Abure was criticized for organizing the national convention without adhering to the requirements of a court order and excluding important stakeholders from the decision-making process.
CNPP highlighted that the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party could have been avoided if democratic principles such as inclusivity, justice, and accountability were upheld. The statement concluded by urging all political parties in Nigeria to promote democratic ideals and respect the rule of law to ensure transparent and fair governance.
