Court Crisis: Nnamdi Kanu Calls For Trial Relocation To Southeast If Abuja Judges Refuse

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called for his trial to be moved to the Southeast if no judge in Abuja is willing to preside over the case. This demand was made in a statement released on Wednesday by Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, following a routine meeting at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja…READ MORE…

Kanu insisted that Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court should not handle his case, following her recusal. He ordered his legal team to ensure that she remains off his trial, stressing that allowing her to resume would be a violation of her own previous order.

The statement read: “During today’s visitation, the legal team addressed the crucial issue of Kanu’s upcoming court date. Kanu instructed that no judge who has withdrawn from the case should preside over it. If Justice Nyako were to resume, it would mean the court is disobeying its own order.”

Kanu’s team expressed hope that the case would proceed with another judge, and if no judge in Abuja is available, they urged the Chief Judge to transfer the case to a Federal High Court in the Southeastern region, including cities like Umuahia, Awka, Enugu, Asaba, or Port Harcourt, where the alleged offenses occurred.

It was previously reported that Kanu requested Justice Nyako to step down from the case on the grounds of a lack of confidence, leading to her recusal and the transfer of the case file to Chief Judge John Tsoho.
