Court Sends Boko Haram Food Supplier To Prison

Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has handed down a 40-year prison sentence to a Borno State-based food supplier, Hamatu Modu, over his involvement in terrorism-related activities linked to Boko Haram insurgents.

According to Ireporter Online, the conviction followed a prosecution by the Federal Government through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. Modu, who was arraigned on a four-count charge, admitted in open court to supplying food items and sensitive information to the террорист group. He pleaded guilty to all charges when they were read before the court.

The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo. In her ruling, Justice Nyako sentenced Modu to 10 years imprisonment on each of the four counts. However, following an appeal by the defence counsel, the court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, effectively reducing the total jail term to 10 years.

In a related development, the court also convicted another food supplier, Isah Ali, for similar offences connected to terrorist activities in Borno State. Ali was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after confessing to the crime, with the court ruling that his sentence would take effect from the date of his arrest three years ago.

Justice Nyako further directed that both convicts undergo rehabilitation and deradicalisation programmes upon completion of their sentences, while the Federal Ministry of Interior was mandated to determine the correctional facilities where they will serve their jail terms.
