Dayo Amusa Fires Back: Actress Slams HIV Rumour in Explosive Instagram Rebuttal
Popular Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has broken her silence following a viral video alleging she is among several actors living with HIV. In her firm response shared via Instagram, the actress refuted the claim, clarifying that the allegation was rooted in a misinterpreted post she originally made in 2019.
According to IREPORTER ONLINE, the rumour began circulating after a content creator, identified as Olaoluwa Segun, published a video naming five Nigerian actors purportedly living with HIV, including Dayo Amusa. The video quickly gained traction on social media, drawing widespread reactions.
Amusa, visibly disturbed by the development, addressed the issue directly. She explained that the video referenced a six-year-old post she made purely for public education. The actress stressed that her 2019 message had confirmed her HIV-negative status and was intended to encourage people to know their status and understand that living with HIV is not a death sentence.
In her own words, Amusa stated, “It is appalling that someone I’ve never met could distort a post I made to spread falsehood. My message then was part of a public health awareness campaign.” She went on to express frustration over the attention the post has now received, warning that she would pursue legal action against the content creator responsible for the video.
According to IREPORTER ONLINE, the actress said she would not allow her name to be dragged into such damaging misinformation without consequences. She declared her intention to make the individual behind the defamatory video an example, emphasizing the legal implications of spreading unverified health claims.
Amusa further reiterated that she is HIV-negative and stands by her original intention, which was to demystify the stigma surrounding the virus. She expressed disappointment over the speed at which baseless claims spread online, urging content creators to act responsibly when discussing sensitive health-related matters.
According to IREPORTER ONLINE, the video has since generated significant controversy online, with fans and fellow actors expressing support for Amusa while calling out the dangers of misinformation. As the matter unfolds, the actress remains resolute in her decision to seek justice and protect her name from defamation.
