Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially handed over five Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to five Judges of the State High Court as their designated official vehicles.

During a brief ceremony at the High Court Complex in Umuahia on Tuesday, Governor Otti assured that he is fully committed to providing everything necessary to ensure the judiciary can confidently carry out its duties.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Otti emphasized his dedication to upholding justice and the rule of law in the state. He stated that those entrusted with this responsibility should have the best working environment to effectively carry out their duties.

The governor openly expressed his profound respect for the judiciary and the rule of law. He commended the harmonious relationship that exists between the executive and judicial branches of government.

Upon receiving the vehicle documents and keys, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Lilian Abai, acknowledged Otti’s judiciary-friendly approach since assuming office. She expressed gratitude to Otti for providing the vehicles for the judges and anticipated a strengthened working partnership with the executive.

Justice Okezie Enyinnaya, one of the beneficiaries, conveyed his appreciation to the governor for the thoughtful gesture extended to him and his fellow judges. He assured, on behalf of his colleagues, that they will make prudent use of the vehicles and remain committed to discharging their duties impartially and diligently.

The Abia State Petition Election Tribunal, located in Umuahia, the state capital scheduled October 6, 2023, as the date for issuing a judgment on the petition contesting the declaration of Mr. Alex Otti as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Abia State.

Chief Ikechi Emenike, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the March 18 election, brought the case to the court, seeking Otti’s removal based on allegations of not resigning his membership prior to joining the Labour Party. He also asserted that Otti’s name was not found in the Labour Party register prior to his selection as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

The petition also involves candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (Okey Ahaiwe), the Young Progressives Party (Nana Nwafor), and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
