Deputy Senate President Barau Pays Tribute to Late President Buhari, Hails His Dedication to Unity and Progress
Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader whose life and legacy were defined by discipline, patriotism, and a deep commitment to the nation’s unity and development.
In a condolence message released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, on Sunday, Barau noted that Buhari’s death represents the end of an era in Nigeria’s political history.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I mourn the passing of the former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who died today in London,” the statement read.
Reflecting on Buhari’s dual service as both military Head of State (1983–1985) and as a democratically elected president (2015–2023), Barau praised the late leader’s enduring vision for Nigeria’s unity, stability, and national development.
“President Buhari was not just a towering figure in our nation’s history but a man whose life embodied discipline, resilience, and patriotism,” he stated.
Barau emphasized that history would remember Buhari for his unwavering efforts to reshape Nigeria’s trajectory—both in military uniform and civilian attire. He prayed for divine mercy and strength for the family, saying, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, the children, and the entire family.”
President Muhammadu Buhari died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82. Plans for his funeral are underway, with Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, set to host the final rites.
