Deputy Speaker Kalu Makes Fresh Revelation On Sit-At-Home In South East
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has stated that the sit-at-home order in the South East has resulted in the loss of about N4 trillion in the region over the past two years.
Kalu emphasized that if this amount had been invested in the region, it would have contributed to improved socio-economic activities and further development.
Speaking at a conference organized by the Ndigboamaka Progressive Marketers Association in Lagos, Kalu revealed that he and 45 other legislators recently met to discuss strategies to end the sit-at-home order in the South East.

He urged marketers to embrace innovation, particularly in utilizing technology to advance their businesses.
Kalu also highlighted the importance of open access to equity markets, financing, and risk management for traders.
He expressed his commitment to using his office and legislative powers to ensure that ports are decongested, enabling traders to carry out their business smoothly.
Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, pledged the airline’s support to legislators in easing tensions surrounding the sit-at-home order.
He emphasized that the airline would partner with lawmakers to ensure seamless flights to states in the region.
Okonkwo further emphasized the importance of peaceful and accommodating environments for the Igbo people, who have thrived as traders and business leaders. He stressed that Lagos should not be considered a “no man’s land” and called for respect and recognition of the original inhabitants of different lands.
The president of the Ndigboamaka Progressive Marketers Association, Chinedu Ukatu, highlighted the significance of innovation and human capacity building for the progress of any country.
He revealed that the association has engaged and empowered over 500,000 youths in capacity-building initiatives.
Ukatu urged government entities and private sector players, particularly shippers, to collaborate with traders for mutual benefit.
