The exchange rate of the United States dollar against the Nigerian naira continued to attract attention as demand for foreign currency remained a major factor in the parallel market.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the dollar was quoted at ₦1,410 for selling and ₦1,400 for buying at the Lagos Parallel Market on Friday, August 21, 2026, based on information obtained from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators.

This means that individuals looking to sell one US dollar to BDC operators could receive about ₦1,400, while those seeking to purchase a dollar could pay approximately ₦1,410.

However, exchange rates in the parallel market are not fixed and may vary depending on the location, dealer and prevailing market conditions.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) does not recognise the parallel or black market as an official foreign exchange market. The apex bank has continued to advise individuals and businesses seeking forex services to conduct their transactions through authorised financial institutions.

Meanwhile, the official CBN exchange rate showed a higher rate of about ₦1,348 and a lower rate of approximately ₦1,342 during the period under review.

Forex users are advised to confirm the prevailing rate before carrying out transactions, as rates can change frequently in response to market conditions.
