Former Senate President Bukola Saraki is reportedly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027 despite being a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, Senator Saliu Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central in the National Assembly, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

Mustapha was asked whether his recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP meant he had now aligned politically with Saraki, who previously served as governor of Kwara State and remains a major PDP figure in the state.

The senator acknowledged Saraki’s influence within the PDP but noted that the former Senate President is not seeking an elective position in the 2027 elections.

Mustapha said Saraki was instead supporting what he described as the “Rainbow Coalition,” a political alliance working to improve Tinubu’s chances of securing another term in office.

He compared Saraki’s position with that of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who remains a PDP member while serving in the Tinubu administration.

Mustapha said, “Bukola is not contesting for anything. He’s neither contesting for senate nor governorship. Bukola is also supporting the Rainbow Coalition that will enrich President Bola Tinubu’s chances.”

The development comes shortly after Mustapha defected from the APC to the PDP and secured the opposition party’s ticket to contest the Kwara Central senatorial seat.

The senator, however, maintained that his decision to join the PDP should not be interpreted as an indication that he is opposed to President Tinubu.
