A disagreement between Nigerian music stars Davido and Wande Coal over an unreleased collaboration has sparked debate among music fans, with supporters of both artistes weighing in on who should have the final say over the song’s release.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the controversy revolves around a song recorded by the two artistes that was never officially released in the form initially expected.

Davido recently explained that Wande Coal had invited him to contribute a verse to the track. According to Davido, Wande intended to release the original version first before subsequently putting out a remix featuring him.

Davido said he was uncomfortable with the proposed arrangement because he did not record his contribution with the understanding that it would be used for a remix.

The disagreement reportedly prevented the collaboration from being officially released.

Wande Coal, however, offered a different account, maintaining that the song already had a release plan before Davido contributed to it.

In a response that further intensified the controversy, Wande questioned Davido’s attempt to influence the release strategy of a song he regarded as his own.

He wrote, “Song wey been get release plan and date! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song fuckin’ did well without you on it, bruv!”

The exchange has since generated a heated debate on social media, with fans divided over which artiste should have had the final authority on the song’s rollout.

Some supporters argued that Wande Coal, as the original artiste behind the record, had the right to determine when and how it should be released.

Social media commentator Daniel Regha argued that Davido should not have dictated the release strategy because he was featured on the collaboration.

He wrote, “Davido has no right whatsoever to disrespect Wande Coal, especially for this. He was featured on the collaboration, and not the other way around.”

Regha further argued that Wande’s plan to release the original song before putting out a version featuring Davido was a reasonable approach.

However, other fans adopted a more balanced position, arguing that being a featured artiste does not automatically remove Davido’s right to have a say in how his contribution is used.

One social media user noted that neither artiste could necessarily claim absolute control without knowing the agreement reached between their respective teams.

The fan argued that the disagreement could have been resolved privately rather than becoming a public dispute.

Another commenter similarly cautioned against drawing conclusions without access to the precise agreement between the artistes, noting that issues surrounding ownership, credits, release dates and remix arrangements can be complicated.

The controversy has therefore evolved into a wider discussion about collaboration etiquette and professional relationships in the Nigerian music industry, particularly over who controls a song when multiple artistes contribute to its production.
