Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has announced a surprise return to the sport at the age of 46, nearly a decade after stepping away from professional football.

The former Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan star revealed on Thursday that he has joined Italian third-tier club Ravenna, with the ambitious target of reaching 300 career goals.

Ronaldinho, whose full name is Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, officially retired from professional football in 2015 after a decorated career that saw him win the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Brazil and the 2005 Ballon d’Or.

Speaking during his presentation in Ravenna, the legendary playmaker expressed his excitement about returning to football and said he felt physically ready for the challenge.

“I’m very happy to be here with friends; we have a team that can do something good,” Ronaldinho said.

The Brazilian admitted that it remains uncertain whether he will feature in matches, leaving the final decision to the club’s coach.

“Will you see me play? I don’t know, only the coach knows that. Coming back to Italy is wonderful, I’m here to help my teammates win,” he added.

Ronaldinho also revealed that scoring his 300th career goal would make his comeback even more memorable.
