EFCC Unfreezes Osun Government Accounts After Presidential Order

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has lifted the restriction placed on the bank accounts of the Osun State Government following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the affected accounts, domiciled with First Bank of Nigeria and Zenith Bank, were frozen earlier in August as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of public funds in the state.

The accounts have reportedly resumed normal operations after the EFCC removed the restriction.

The commission had issued a Post No Debit instruction on the accounts on August 5 in connection with an investigation that commenced in March 2026.

The probe reportedly concerns the management of approximately ₦11 billion in Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds and allocations received by the state from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The development subsequently attracted the attention of President Tinubu, who directed the anti-graft agency to lift the restriction and reopen the accounts.

The President had reportedly described the freezing of the state’s accounts as embarrassing and called for the restriction to be removed.

Following his victory in the Osun governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke also directed the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN, to withdraw the legal action instituted against the EFCC over the matter.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, confirmed that the restriction had been lifted.

Ajayi explained that the EFCC complied with the presidential directive and restored access to the accounts immediately.

He said the anti-graft agency could not disregard an instruction from the President, adding that the lifting of the restriction had already been effected.
