Drama In Benue: Lawmakers Extend Dajoh’s Suspension Over New Plot Allegations
According to Ireporter Online, the Benue State House of Assembly has prolonged the suspension of former Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh by an additional six months. The decision was reached during Tuesday’s plenary after a motion was raised to reassess his earlier suspension.
The motion, moved by Terna Shimawua of Kyan Constituency, argued that Dajoh had failed to show remorse since his initial suspension on August 26 for allegedly coordinating an attempt to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia. Shimawua informed the lawmakers that instead of reflecting on the matter, Dajoh was said to have again aligned with former Majority Leader Saater Tiseer and former Minority Leader Michael Audu in a renewed effort to unseat the current Speaker, Alfred Emberga.
He criticized the alleged actions as unacceptable for someone who once held the position of presiding officer, stressing that such conduct falls below the standards expected of a leader, especially after the recent change in the Assembly’s leadership.
The House unanimously backed the motion, with Simon Gabo of Mata Constituency seconding it.
In his remarks, Speaker Emberga emphasized the importance of discipline within the legislature, insisting that no individual is above the institution. He stated that Dajoh will be required to tender a written apology and demonstrate genuine remorse before he can return to legislative duties after the suspension ends.
Emberga added that the new six-month suspension took effect from November 25, reiterating that the Assembly will not condone actions that could destabilize its operations. Dajoh had initially been suspended for three months in August over allegations of attempting to remove the state governor.
