Oborevwori with the award, acknowledging his leadership and governance. However, during a visit to Kwale, Delta State, on Saturday, Omo-Agege accused the governor of using state resources to gain personal recognition.

In response, the governor, through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, defended the award, asserting that it was a testament to his fiscal discipline and developmental strides.

Oborevwori’s Response to Critics

Aniagwu emphasized that Oborevwori’s achievements were widely recognized, even beyond Delta State.

“We thought we were the only ones taking note of these giant strides, but even in faraway Lagos and Abuja, editors of THISDAY and ARISE News were also closely observing and documenting them,” he said.

The commissioner further stated that the award was well-deserved due to the administration’s numerous completed and ongoing projects.

“We have no problem with opposition figures, particularly our brother and leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. We welcome constructive criticism as it pushes us to do more. However, questioning why the governor received the award seems like nothing more than ‘pepper body’ (envy or resentment),” Aniagwu remarked.

Calls for Acknowledgment of Progress

Aniagwu urged Omo-Agege to set aside political rivalry and acknowledge the development happening in Delta State.

“When a state is recognized for making progress, its leaders should be proud. Attempting to discredit these achievements for personal political reasons does not benefit anyone,” he stated.

He further advised Omo-Agege to focus on Delta’s development rather than engaging in political attacks.

“We urge him to be fair in his politicking. Right now, we are not focused on political battles—we have a covenant with the people of Delta to deliver on the MORE Agenda and advance the state’s development. If he is questioning our impact in the Ndokwa Nation, I will remind him that we have already awarded no fewer than 15km of road projects in the area,” Aniagwu added.
