Economic Hardship Grips Zamfara: Residents Decry Hight Cost Of Living

A visit by Ireporteronline to major markets in Gusau metropolis revealed a somber atmosphere, with both sellers and buyers expressing dismay over the skyrocketing prices of food items.
According to Ishiaku Ibrahim, a watermelon seller, the prices of agricultural produce have soared significantly, making them unaffordable for many households. He attributed this to the challenges faced by farmers, including restricted access to farmlands due to banditry.
Similarly, Ibrahim Yahaya, who trades in tomatoes, onions, and fresh peppers, bemoaned the low patronage they are experiencing amid the prevailing economic hardship.
Buyers like Mrs. Agnes Ibukunle echoed these sentiments, stressing that the economic crisis is affecting both Muslims and non-Muslims alike, with many struggling to afford basic necessities and even two meals a day.
The situation was not different in the meat section of Gusau Central Market, where sellers reported a decline in patronage as customers prioritize purchasing food essentials over meat.
Muhammad Imran, a meat seller, acknowledged the prevailing economic challenges, noting that customers are prioritizing their spending due to the harsh economic conditions across the country.
Residents called on the Federal Government to urgently address the security and economic crises plaguing the nation, expressing concerns over the widening gap between the affluent and the impoverished segments of society.
As the economic woes persist, Zamfara residents brace themselves for further uncertainties, hoping for swift interventions to alleviate their plight and restore stability to their livelihoods.
