Edo 2024: Is PDP Still In The Race?
~ Liberty ‘Ruyi
Two weeks ago, I offered an Eagle’s eyes political view of the standings of the various political parties in an intense SWOT analysis I titled: “Unveiling The Power Plays And Pitfalls In The Three Senatorial Districts” with a caveat that actions and inactions of the various political parties are likely to adjust my predictions slightly.
In that publication, I gave the Edo North Senatorial District to the APC with a high possibility of an unassailable margin. I also gave Edo Central to the APC but with a “too close to call” margin.
As expected, Edo South was labeled the battleground where PDP is perceived to be the dominant party in the three metropolitan Local Government Areas, even placing APC in a possible third place. Whereas the APC dominates the rural areas of Edo South.
True to changing political dynamics, and my prediction that Senator Matthew Urhoghide and Dr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama could change the tide in Oredo, APC has intensified their campaigns in Benin City, and, in a surprise twist that political analysts could attribute to the body language of the ancestral Palace of the Oba of Benin, PDP has fallen apart in their strongest hold of Benin City giving APC an unexpected advantage with Labour Party in the mix.
It is now a case of, “once upon a time”, there was a PDP. Bastardized by the actions of Governor Godwin Obaseki against the people, PDP now grasps for breath a few days to an important election.
True to the character of a failure, their misfortune and frustration are being directed at the Presidency, INEC and the Nigeria Police. They now probate and reprobate like some confused bunch anticipating a miracle amidst a disaster.
