Edo’s 2024 Election: Why Akpakomiza’s Name Dominates Conversations
By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah (Abuja)
In Edo State, the forthcoming 2024 gubernatorial election have become the sweetest tune on everyone’s lips, permeating conversations with the promise of a brighter future. Why, you may ask, is the Edo election dominating headlines and discussions on every platform?
Recent political reviews, including an editorial in Vanguard, among other seasoned pundits, have hinted at a rising star within the state’s political landscape. The individual in question is none other than the distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, fondly known as Akpakomiza, who currently represents Edo Central senatorial district in the state.
Despite not officially declaring his candidacy, he is making significant waves within his party. Here are some noteworthy reasons why:
1. Edo Central’s Cry for Power Shift: First and foremost, Senator Akpakomiza hails from Edo Central, an area with a resounding call for a shift in political power. As the sitting senator representing the district in the National Assembly, his achievement is unprecedented among APC stalwarts.
The senate seat has historically been a stronghold of the PDP, regardless of the ruling party in the state or at the federal level, but Akpakomiza broke the curse.
2. Humility and Resilience: Akpakomiza’s humility and his ability to maintain composure in the face of diverse circumstances provide him with a significant edge. His passion for standing alongside the masses has won him considerable support.
3. Financial Strength: Rumors suggest that he is an industrialist and business mogul, indicating he possesses the financial capacity to run a robust gubernatorial campaign. In local parlance, it is often said, “If your body is not robust, don’t venture into the political arena.” meaning , ” if your body no full …no put body”
4. Proximity to Adams Oshiomhole: Akpakomiza’s close relationship with Adams Oshiomhole, a revered nationalist and statesman, provides another advantage. Oshiomhole’s unwavering dedication and sincerity have earned him iconic status, making him a sought-after figure to associate with.
The former Edo State Governor was in the senator’s home a few days ago for a surprise birthday party in honour of Akpakomiza.
5. Incumbent Senator’s Benefits: As an incumbent senator, Akpakomiza maintains good relations with the party’s national secretariat while also maintaining strong grassroots support inside the state chapter and his senatorial constituency.
6. Philanthropic Endeavors: Akpakomiza is widely regarded as a prominent philanthropist, viewed by the people as a champion for the masses and a solution to their struggles.
While these are just a few of the elements fueling Akpakomiza’s rising political profile, there is much more to learn. For the time being, we’ll leave you hanging as we impatiently await the outcome of this exciting political scenario.
