Following hours of interrogation by EFCC investigators on corruption allegations related to the mishandling of N37.1 billion social intervention funds during her tenure, she was allowed to return home on Monday night.

Further clarifications on various flagged issues from the Commission’s preliminary investigations are expected when she returns on Tuesday.

The EFCC’s ongoing inquiry focuses on the substantial sum of N37.1 billion allegedly misappropriated by officials of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development under Umar-Farouq’s leadership.

Earlier, the commission had questioned the suspended National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.

Following a raid on NSIPA’s office on January 2, Shehu was detained for questioning and released on bail the next day. Recently suspended by President Bola Tinubu, Shehu was responsible for overseeing the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and was temporarily replaced by Akindele Egbuwalo.
