Experts Declare Solar Power The Ultimate Key To Slashing Energy Costs

According to Ireporter Online, the Chief Executive of SMEFUNDS, Dr. Femi Oye, has urged logistics companies to adopt solar energy as a strategic pathway to cost reduction and operational efficiency. He noted that renewable energy integration has become a necessity rather than a luxury for businesses striving to remain competitive and sustainable.

Oye observed that the logistics sector, which consumes vast amounts of energy for warehousing, climate control, and machinery, is especially vulnerable to rising and unpredictable energy costs. He added that while solar installations may initially require significant investment, the cost is typically recovered within three to seven years, given the panels’ lifespan of more than 20 years. This, he said, enables firms to plan budgets more accurately while enjoying uninterrupted operations.

He emphasized that logistics companies, with their expansive warehouse rooftops, have ideal spaces for solar panel deployment, which not only strengthens their environmental credentials but also appeals to eco-conscious partners and customers.

Highlighting operational resilience as another advantage, Oye explained that solar solutions provide firms with reliable backup during grid failures, ensuring business continuity. He further noted that pairing solar with advanced technologies, such as aerothermal systems, can maximise efficiency and further reduce dependence on external power sources.

According to him, solar adoption also has wider economic implications, particularly in safeguarding Nigeria’s food supply chain. With a growing population and mounting environmental challenges, he argued that innovative solutions—ranging from renewable energy to artificial intelligence—are vital. He cited AI-driven tools already in use within the food value chain that analyse historical data, weather conditions, and consumer behaviour to help producers and retailers align supply with demand.
