Explosive Details: Enugu SSG Unveils Tinubu’s Stance On Militarization And Security In The South East

Professor Chidi Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, has revealed that the issue of the South East’s militarization was a key topic discussed with President Bola Tinubu during his recent visit to the state. Onyia shared that they addressed the economic implications of security checkpoints, such as rising food prices, inflation, and wasted man-hours.

Onyia explained that the conversation focused on enhancing regional security through technology, rather than relying heavily on physical military presence. He highlighted that Enugu State has made substantial investments in technology to bolster security, including a newly established command and control center that was also commissioned by the president.

While Onyia confirmed that Tinubu supported the integration of security measures, there was no clear commitment to reducing military checkpoints. The conversation emphasized how these checkpoints impact logistics and contribute to increased consumer costs.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, previously attributed the high number of military checkpoints in the region to the area’s topography.
