Fatai Sworn In As 42nd Lagos Police Commissioner

Tijani Fatai has formally assumed office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command. According to a statement from the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, Fatai succeeds Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.

The statement highlighted that Fatai is expected to advance ongoing reforms and strengthen security across Lagos State. A native of Agege Local Government Area, Fatai attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, from 1979 to 1984 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

Fatai joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent on June 10, 1994. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police overseeing the Eastern Port Command in Port Harcourt. Over his career, he has held key positions including Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at both the Maritime Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos and the Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja, as well as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Department of Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

He has also commanded several areas, including Ilaro in Ogun State, Maiduguri Metro in Borno State, and Area C in Surulere, Lagos. Additionally, he served as Squadron Commander of the 5 Police Mobile Force in Benin, Edo State, and the 17 PMF in Akure, Ondo State, and worked as Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos. His earlier postings include Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ogun State, and in Ijanikin and Alakara divisions in Lagos State.

A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fatai assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to enhancing security in Lagos. The statement noted that his leadership, professionalism, and dedication position him to effectively manage the Lagos State Police Command. Fatai pledged to improve inter-agency collaboration, strengthen community partnerships, and continue efforts to safeguard lives and property. The Lagos State Police Command also appealed for public cooperation to support the new leadership’s drive to enhance professionalism, discipline, and service delivery.
