Tinubu, 32 Governors & 8,453 Delegates Gear Up For APC National Convention
President Bola Tinubu, alongside members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and approximately 8,453 delegates, is set to participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention scheduled to hold in Abuja on Friday and Saturday. The event is expected to draw party leaders and stakeholders from national, zonal, state, and ward levels, with new party executives anticipated to emerge.
Speaking at the APC World Media Briefing held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the Media Sub-committee for the convention, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that thousands of delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will attend.
“We are expecting a total of 8,453 delegates. These are coming from across the 36 states of the federation to Abuja,” Idris said. He added that the convention, themed ‘Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,’ is designed to reflect the party’s vision and direction.
Idris explained that the convention will serve as a platform for leadership elections, policy discussions, and strategic planning. “The convention hopes to bring together delegates for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to a new set of party executives,” he said. He also noted that the gathering will allow the party to review its achievements and align its leadership structure with the administration’s policy direction.
Preparations for the event have been completed, with Idris assuring that the convention at Eagle Square in Abuja will be smooth, transparent, and credible. Various committees set up for the convention have finalized their assignments to ensure effective coordination.
Also addressing the media, the Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee and former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, said the party was not aware of any legal challenges that could affect the convention. Masari confirmed that 25 sub-committees had completed preparations and emphasized strict adherence to the party’s zoning arrangement in leadership elections.
“APC is a responsible party in Nigeria. In line with federal character, all offices are zoned. Aspirants seeking positions outside their zones may only be attempting to create confusion, which we will not tolerate,” Masari said, assuring Nigerians of the party’s readiness for the convention.
