Fayose Breaks Silence, Accepts Tinubu’s Appointment

According to Ireporter Online, Fayose confirmed his acceptance of the appointment while speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, where he expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for considering him worthy of serving in the federal government.

The former governor had previously stated during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today in October 2025 that he declined an offer from the President and had no plans to return to public office after completing two terms as governor of Ekiti State.

Fayose had explained at the time that, at 65, he preferred to focus on other personal responsibilities after what he described as a successful political career serving his state.

However, following Tinubu’s appointment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain as chairman of the REA board on July 20, 2026, Fayose accepted the position and pledged to contribute positively to the agency’s mandate.

Speaking on the development, Fayose thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity, describing the appointment as a chance to support grassroots development through improved access to electricity in rural communities across Nigeria.

He assured the President and Nigerians that he would carry out his responsibilities diligently and would not disappoint the administration.

The former governor, however, noted that the REA board had not yet been inaugurated, making it too early to reveal specific plans or policy directions. He said detailed strategies would be made public once the board officially begins its duties.

Fayose emphasised that the agency’s work directly affects ordinary Nigerians, especially those in rural areas, and expressed his commitment to contributing to efforts aimed at expanding electricity access nationwide.
