President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  recently convened his cabinet for the 8th Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in Abuja, delving into pressing issues such as economic challenges and outlining strategies for national prosperity.

Among the key attendees was the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh.The session witnessed a series of impactful decisions and reforms, setting the stage for transformative changes to propel the nation toward a more prosperous future.

Amidst the discussions, the Council made impactful decisions on February 26, focusing on governance optimization for the benefit of Nigerians. A major highlight was the approval for the construction of the Lagos-Port Harcourt-Calabar Coastal Superhighway, promising a significant boost to the nation’s infrastructure.

The Council also approved immediate social security payments for vulnerable households, requiring National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN). This move aims to provide swift relief to those in need, reflecting a commitment to addressing economic challenges at the grassroots level. Further expanding social support, the Council extended assistance to graduates from the National Certificate in Education (NCE) level and above.

Additionally, a groundbreaking decision was made to establish consumer credit, demonstrating a proactive approach to economic empowerment, led by a committee headed by the Chief of Staff. A crucial aspect of this FEC session was the implementation of recommendations from the Steve Oronsaye panel, submitted in 2012.

The restructuring of federal agencies, involving merging and scrapping entities with similar functions, is geared towards enhancing efficiency and reducing governance costs. The multifaceted benefits for Nigerians include improved infrastructure through the approved superhighway, immediate social security relief, and expanded support for graduates.
