NLC Pushes Forward With Nationwide Protest Despite Last-minute Talks With Tinubu Administration

Despite a high-level meeting between representatives of the labour union and key government officials, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and other top ministers, discussions hit an impasse late Monday night.
Undeterred by the deadlock, NLC President Joe Ajaero affirmed the union’s unwavering commitment to staging the protest as planned, asserting, “The rally goes on.”
Addressing concerns raised by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the protest, Ajaero emphasized the union’s commitment to maintaining peace and order during the demonstrations, underscoring the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
In a bold move signaling their resolve, Ajaero disclosed plans to submit a comprehensive list of demands to the National Assembly today, reiterating the union’s unwavering stance on pressing issues affecting Nigerian workers.
The NLC’s decision to forge ahead with the protest comes despite earlier threats of nationwide service shutdowns if any members of the labour union are subjected to attacks during the two-day demonstration.
As tensions mount and anticipation builds, all eyes are on the NLC as they prepare to make their voices heard and advocate for the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers on the national stage. Stay tuned for live updates as events unfold during this pivotal moment in Nigeria’s labour movement.
