Tunji confirmed that the PMI remains on track, with a goal to deliver 2 million meters annually. The initiative has already begun procurement processes, with the first batch of meters expected to be distributed by the first quarter of next year.

This investment is part of the government’s commitment to addressing the metering gap in Nigeria’s power sector, which currently stands at 50%. Additionally, the government is progressing with the World Bank-backed Distribution Sector Reform Programme (DISREP), which will deliver 1.3 million meters this month as part of efforts to bridge the metering deficit.

Despite the challenges posed by the N250 billion debt tied to the initiative, the government continues to seek financial backing from various institutions to ensure the success of the program.
