In a statement issued on Saturday by Alabi Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Health, the government emphasized that while the variant has not been detected in Nigeria, the public should continue practicing preventive measures such as regular handwashing and maintaining personal hygiene.

Balogun further reassured that the federal government had taken proactive steps to combat the threat, including the establishment of molecular laboratories, isolation centres, and intensive care units equipped with ventilators at federal tertiary hospitals.

The Ministry of Health has also enhanced surveillance, particularly at all entry points into Nigeria, to ensure the country’s preparedness. Balogun encouraged Nigerians to remain calm, stating that there is no need to panic over the false claims about a resurgence of COVID-19 in the country.
