FG Considers New Training Scheme for NCE Graduates to Match NYSC

Federal Government is exploring a new training scheme equivalent to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for graduates of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and other programs. This initiative, revealed by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Olawande Wisdom, aims to enhance youth engagement and skill development nationwide.

At the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan, Wisdom announced that the Ministry of Youth Development would collaborate with the Ministry of Education to implement these new training reforms. He emphasized that while NYSC currently serves university graduates, there is a need for a similar program for NCE holders and others.

“The main goal is to offer a training program within each state, eliminating the need to travel to other states. This will ensure that more youths have access to valuable training opportunities right where they live,” Wisdom explained.

The Minister praised youth organizations such as the Boys’ Brigade and Girl Guides for their role in keeping young people away from social vices. He highlighted that these programs contribute significantly to the social and personal development of youths.

Wisdom also lauded Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, for her impactful work in advancing the education and empowerment of girls. Anyanwu-Akeredolu clarified that the BEMORE initiative is independent of the Ondo State Government and focuses on cultivating future female leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

“We cannot achieve true development if we leave behind half of our population, which includes women and girls,” Anyanwu-Akeredolu stated, emphasizing the importance of including women and girls in national progress.

Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director and CEO of Oodu’a Investments, encouraged participants to make the most of the training they receive. He praised the efforts of the organizers and mentors for their commitment to preparing girls for a sustainable future through technological and educational initiatives.

The event also featured a training session by the Red Cross Society on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), adding practical value to the participants’ experience.

This new initiative reflects the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for all graduates and reinforcing its support for youth development across Nigeria.
