Exclusive: NYSC DG Exposes The Truth About Your Missing ₦77,000 Allowance

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has addressed concerns regarding the delayed implementation of the increased monthly allowance for corps members. This follows the Federal Government’s approval to raise the allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, effective July 2024.

Ahmed explained that the delay is due to funding challenges, as the government has not yet released the necessary funds to facilitate this increase. Despite the official notification from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission on September 25, 2024, corps members received only the previous amount of ₦33,000 in September, leading to confusion among them.

In a recent interview with the BBC Hausa service, Ahmed reassured corps members that the NYSC is actively working with the relevant authorities to expedite the release of funds to ensure that the new allowance is implemented as soon as possible. He highlighted that even the salaries of NYSC staff, which were also increased four to five months ago, have yet to be implemented due to similar funding issues. While the new allowance has been approved, no specific date has been provided for when it will take effect.
