FG Provides Food Relief To Victims Of Attacks In Plateau State
According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has provided food assistance to victims of the recent attacks on Ngbrazongo community in Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The intervention was led by the Minister, Dr. Benard Doro, who was accompanied by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, during the distribution exercise held on Monday in Bassa. The support items were presented to residents affected by the violent incident of May 8, which left several people dead and others injured after gunmen invaded the community.
Dr. Doro, who hails from the area, expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones, noting that the Federal Government remains committed to addressing the worsening security situation in Plateau State. He assured residents that measures were being put in place to curb further attacks, stressing that President Bola Tinubu was deeply concerned about the insecurity in the region and determined to restore peace.
Governor Mutfwang, while also sympathising with the victims, condemned the renewed wave of violence in the state, describing the killings as acts of terrorism aimed at disrupting livelihoods. He pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies to end the attacks and restore stability. The governor further assured residents that no part of Plateau State would be taken over by criminal elements, adding that efforts were ongoing to safeguard communities.
He also praised security operatives for their role in protecting affected areas and urged young people in the state to support ongoing security operations.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area, Dr. Joshua Riti, lamented the negative impact of the recurring violence on economic activities in the region. Similarly, the President of the Irigwe Development Association, Rev. Daniel Gya, called on authorities to intensify efforts to end the crisis while also urging the provision of social amenities to improve rural livelihoods.
