The Federal Government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has launched a two-week nationwide enlightenment campaign aimed at boosting security awareness, disaster preparedness, civic responsibility, and national identity across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking at the flag-off in Abuja on Wednesday, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the initiative as a coordinated “national awakening” to close gaps in public awareness, correct harmful practices, and combat misinformation that threaten Nigeria’s unity, safety, and long-term development.

According to Ireporter Online, Issa-Onilu stressed that the programme is designed to reach citizens in every part of the country with messages that foster vigilance, national pride, and responsible citizenship.

The campaign, to be implemented across all 774 local government areas, will prioritise five core areas — enlightenment on government policies, flood mitigation and disaster readiness, national security consciousness, value reorientation for students, and the Nigerian identity and national symbols project.

According to Ireporter Online, activities will include press briefings in every state, grassroots mobilisation in markets, schools, motor parks, religious centres, and community halls, as well as the distribution of information materials in English and other major Nigerian languages.

Daily radio, television, and social media engagements will run throughout the campaign, complemented by toll-free lines and online platforms for citizen feedback.

The NOA boss urged the media, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, student organisations, and community stakeholders to actively participate in spreading the message of national renewal.

“Let us use these two weeks to ignite a renewed spirit of patriotism, vigilance, unity, and responsibility that will carry us into a safer, stronger, and more united Nigeria,” Issa-Onilu said.

According to Ireporter Online, the timing of the campaign is significant as the country faces heightened flood risks in 27 states, persistent security challenges, and concerns over declining civic pride and social responsibility among the youth.
