Reports indicate that Miss Ugwuka, a student in the Department of English, had passed all her courses except one, which she had repeatedly failed. The lecturer of this particular course had allegedly vowed that she would never pass it.

In an emotional video circulating online, a woman believed to be the deceased’s mother blamed the lecturer for her daughter’s death. She lamented, “Dr. Enyi said he is the best, that nobody can teach like him. He should come and carry my daughter who has committed suicide.”

Rex Nwome, a graduate of EBSU who identified himself as a close friend and classmate of the deceased, corroborated the mother’s claims. He recounted how the lecturer’s persistent refusal to pass Favour in his course had led to severe depression. Despite passing all other courses, Favour had to pay for an extra year of tuition to retake the failed course, only to fail it again.

The latest trigger for her despair was reportedly the release of the NYSC names, where her name was absent due to the failed course. “The girl suffered a lot of depression because she was only left wandering about the EBSU seeking help. She was very desperate to graduate and serve,” Nwome added.

The Ebonyi State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating that the matter had been reported to the police headquarters. Efforts to obtain a reaction from the university authorities were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the extreme pressures and challenges faced by students, and the critical need for compassionate and fair educational practices.
